Scott who? Let me explain…

My name is Scott, and I’ve been playing with cars ever since I could walk. I’ve always been into the kind of stuff that most people don’t care about (3rd gen Camaro’s, C4 Corvette’s, etc) which is why I went with the “IffyCars” brand name. It just fits.

But here’s the thing: I’m not just someone who loves cars in theory. I’ve owned them, driven them hard, made expensive mistakes with them, and learned real lessons along the way.

My Real-World Experience

Over the past three decades, I’ve owned everything from beat-up hand-me-down Pontiacs to a beloved Nissan 350Z that I crashed while trying to drift. I’ve made terrible financial decisions (rolling negative equity into a Dodge Neon lease), bought cars I thought would be great that turned out to be junk (looking at you, 1997 Mustang GT), and learned the hard way what it means to truly respect a car’s limits.

I’ve dealt with dealerships, private sales, and yes, even sold a car to Carvana. I’ve navigated insurance claims, maintenance schedules, and the reality of what it actually costs to own a fun car versus a practical one. I’ve rented dozens of cars while traveling and daily driven everything from a Honda Fit to a 2012 Mustang GT (which is what I drive today).

I’ve worked at a car dealership as a lot boy, spent four summers around new inventory, and learned what happens behind the scenes. I understand what it’s like to be a regular person trying to make smart decisions about cars, and not just an enthusiast chasing thrills.

Why I Created IffyCars.com

My other automotive website, DriveAndReview.com, is where I publish detailed reviews of every car I drive, own, or rent. That site is about the experience of specific vehicles (what they feel like, how they perform, whether they live up to the hype).

But I wanted another space to share the practical side of car ownership. The lessons I’ve learned from my mistakes. The advice I wish someone had given me before I made bad financial decisions. The maintenance tips, buying strategies, and common problems to watch out for in specific models.

This site exists because I’ve been there. The feeling of being excited about a new car, confused by a maintenance issue, frustrated with a dealer, trying to figure out if I’m getting ripped off. I write from experience, not from a detached expert perspective. I’ve made the mistakes so maybe you don’t have to.

What You’ll Find Here

I cover practical topics: how to sell your car, common problems with specific models, maintenance advice for regular owners who aren’t mechanics, buying tips, and general automotive guidance. I’m not a professional mechanic, but I’ve learned what matters and what doesn’t through real ownership.

At 51, I’ve lived with cars long enough to know what information actually helps people make better decisions.

Thanks for being here. I hope what I share makes your automotive life a little easier. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out.
